Welcome to Peckers Wood Golf Club

Dogs have been frolicking along the fairways for considerable time now, but Peckers Wood's traditional management isn't too enthusiastic about women. Surely this can't be true in this day and age? Or is it still an issue?

Get ready for some fun with Philly Hackkett, her best friend Prudence Love and the naughty sisters Birdie and Bogey Banger. Find out how they prove their value as members to Club President Bashit and his croneys Lt. Rt. Bushrod, Reggie Rough and Club Captain Ben Chipperfield.

Dogs and women allowed, a novel

According to....

Emma Ballard, Women and Golf

Emma Briggs, author of the satirical golf novel Dogs and Women Allowed, combines her love for storytelling with her deep-rooted connection to golf. The book, which challenges the longstanding cultural norms of the sport, is as much a tribute to her late father as it is an exploration of sexism in golf.

According to....

McKenzie Lynn Tozan, Reedsy Discovery

"Rich with new opportunities, new ways of thinking, budding romance, and smart quips, Dogs and Women Allowed proves to be an uplifting, funny, and feel-good story of the importance of change and open-mindedness being the key to staying on top. For anyone looking for an adorable new rom-com and female characters who push the boundaries of what is possible, this would be a wonderful read to pick up this fall."

I was looking for a funny, summertime read, and I found it with "Dogs and Women Allowed." I can't believe that this is Emma Briggs' first novel. She creates a fantastic world of characters who you root for from start to finish. She also weaves together several terrific stories and leaves you wanting to know what's going to happen to these women next. Ms. Briggs clearly loves golf, but you don't have to be a fan to enjoy the novel. I've never picked up a club in my life (except for miniature golf), but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

About Emma Briggs

Emma Briggs is a writer and civil servant from the south of the Netherlands, happily married to her husband who fell in love with golf at a later age but is making up for earlier years lost. Emma is half Dutch, half British. Her father emigrated from London England to Eindhoven the Netherlands in the early sixties, after being a reporter for Golf Illustrated for a couple of years. He caught the golf bug from Emma’s grandfather, a keen low handicap golfer. Her grandmother, who started playing after she turned sixty, was a small Lady section’s Captain in the mid nineteen eighties.

Emma started playing golf in her late teens. She was quickly followed by her younger sister who became, and still is, the far better player and owns a high-end club fitting business and golf shop with her life partner. Emma and her sister are both members at the same golf club.
